Biography
Meja is one of Sweden's best-selling artists with sales of up to 2.5 million units. She has been collaborating with some of the world's best producers and writers including Billy Steinberg (Madonna, Pretenders, Celine Dion) Marty Frederiksen (Ozzy Osbourne, The Cult), Stephen Lipson, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) Anders Bagge (Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias) Eric Bazilian (Ricky Martin, Joan Osbourne), Jed Leiber, Jeff Barry and Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) to mention a few. She started her career in 1993 with the dance music project Legacy of Sound, where she co-wrote songs that later were covered by artists such as Destiny's Child and Jessica Simpson ("Woman in Me"). After two successful albums with the group, she left to pursue a solo career. Sony Music released her first self-titled album in 1996, produced by Douglas Carr. A live album from her Concert Tour "Flower Girl Jam - live in Japan" in 1997 was released before her second studio album "Seven Sisters" reached the world in 1998. With hits like "All about the Money", she climbed the charts all over Europe, Japan, Australia, and the U.S. Receiving awards such as "Artist of the Year" and "Pop album of the year" along with Swedish Grammy nominations and the honorable World Music Award in 1999 for Best selling Scandinavia Female Artist. In 2001 the album "Realitales" was released in collaboration with Stephen Lipson, Marti Frederiksen, Billy Steinberg, and Douglas Carr. The artwork for the album was shot by Swedish director Jonas Åerlund (Madonna, Metallica, U2). In 2004 the Jazz Bossanova-influenced album "Mellow" was released, produced by Hamish Stuart (The Average White Band). Her upcoming album will be released spring of 2008.
