Tianyu Ma is born and raised in Beijing, China. Mostly working as a screenwriter and director, she mainly focuses on topics related to cross-culture youth with their exploration of sex and gender. As her thesis film at Emerson College, "200 Cigarettes From Now" intends to present an authentic and vivid portrayal of Asian girls from her generation.
