Edgar McNaughton is a magician who performs at a comedic magic show night after night. He encounters several women during his day who he hopes will become his one and only true and perfect apprentice. He tests them on the spot by performing magic tricks for them, believing that one of them will be revealed to be his 'enlightened' one, the one who was sent to him by 'the powers that be'.
