Maya Hennessey (she/her) is a 21-year-old writer, producer, and performer based in Chicago, Illinois. As a queer, adopted Asian American, she highlights the colorful, challenging, and intersectional experiences of herself and her communities. Her work explores themes of queer joy, the Asian American experience, womanhood, young adulthood, sexuality & identity, adoption, and mental health but through comedy. She aims to revive the intimacy, allure, and nostalgia around sitcoms but with inclusive, diverse, and representative narratives. In 2020 Maya's poem entitled "The Privilege Walk" about her experience as a Chinese queer woman, won the 2020 Gold Award at the University of Connecticut. Currently, she is dedicated to her passion project, Truck It, following an Asian bisexual college graduate as he starts a food truck business to "become an adult." It is a feel-good sitcom, displaying the everyday adult struggles of queer people of color. She is dedicated, hardworking, passionate, collaborative, and an organized leader.
