  • On Betty's nightstand sits a copy of the book The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. America Ferrera plays Carmen in the film version of the book.
  • The Suarez family is from Mexico, but none of the actors are ethnically Mexican. America Ferrera is Honduran, Tony Plana is Cuban, Ana Ortiz is Puerto Rican-Irish, and Mark Indelicato is Puerto Rican-Italian.
  • Although Fashion TV is mentioned in the series, it is not connected to the real-life TV series or the French channel of the same name.
  • Rebecca Romijn left the show because she felt that the new writing staff (after the WGA strike ended in 2008) wrecked her character.
  • Silvio Horta revealed in an interview that it was entirely the network's decision to hire Lindsay Lohan on the show, against Horta's own wishes. Lohan was so difficult to work with that even though she signed up for six episodes in season 3, her character was written out after three.

  • Show creator Silvio Horta, who is openly gay, addressed rumors about Justin's sexuality by confirming (in a February 2007 USA Today interview) that as Justin ages, he will experience "the journey." Horta also said, "I see myself in him. Growing up, I certainly felt like an outsider at times. But there's this sweet innocence in Justin that sees the positive." In 2008, Horta expanded on this statement, telling a different interviewer that when he started to create the character of Justin, "it really just popped into my head....I tried five different types of kids, and they all felt the same. Then suddenly, I thought - What if you had a little gay kid? I wrote him that way, and it was like: This is fun! This is interesting and different." Toward the end of the final season, Justin did get his first kiss from another boy, Austin, and he and Austin started dating.
  • Chris Williams, who plays Wilhelldiva Hater (the drag queen parody of Wilhelmina Slater), is Vanessa Williams' brother.
  • The house in which the Suarez family live in is not a real house. The inside of the house is a set and the outside is just 1 wall against a green screen to create a fake street with many other homes. This is the case when the show was filmed in Los Angeles, when the show relocated to New York, an actual house in Jackson Heights, Queens was used for the exteriors.
  • The outside of the modern art museum shown is actually the outside of the New England Aquarium in Boston, with some computer-generated differences.
  • Amanda Tanen is named after Brian Tanen, an Ugly Betty production crew member and writer.
